A Lifetime of Fishing
I’m Patrick Leonard, founder of Wolf Spider Baits.
I’ve been fishing my whole life. I started trout fishing as a kid in the Blue Ridge Mountains with my Uncle Wayne, spending time on North Creek, Middle Creek, and Jennings Creek.
As I got older, my cousin Billy introduced me to bass fishing. My first largemouth bass was caught on a Carolina rig with a green pumpkin 6-inch lizard — and I was hooked for life. I’ve fished tournaments for many years, and jigs have always been my favorite bait to fish with.
Why We Make Jigs
I started making jigs for myself, experimenting in my basement with materials, balance, and colors — especially matching the natural colors of crawfish. Creating something I personally know works has been a thrill, and every jig we sell is something I trust and fish myself.

The Beginning of wolf spider baits
In 2025, a conversation at Indian Point Marina on Smith Mountain Lake reignited my passion for making jigs. Around the same time, while watching the Heavy Hitters tournament, the name was inspired by a conversation between pro anglers who were talking about spiders. That moment stuck — and Wolf Spider Baits was born.
